AboutSam's List

It started with a tweet.
Sam asked the internet one question:
“Who’s your CPA… and would you recommend them?”

The replies poured in. (of course, he's internet famous!)
The post was getting real recommendations from entrepreneurs and high-net-worth people across the country.

The lightbulb starts to come on...

Sam was going to vet these CPAs anyway.
He was going to ask the same nosy questions we all (should) ask before we trust someone with our money:

What are you the best at?
Who do you work with?
What do you actually do?
What do you charge?
Who have you helped similar to me?
So instead of keeping it as a private list, we turned it into Sam’s List!
A public place to find financial pros the same way you’d find a restaurant: by reading real experiences first.

Finding a great CPA or advisor is weirdly hard.
You don’t buy a car on vibes.
But people hire someone to run their business and personal finances off a buddy’s text.
That’s how you end up paying twice.
Once in fees.

Once in mistakes.

And we did what any normal person would do (we are not normal).

We upload every single recommendation into Airtable.

Then we cold called and emailed each firm people raved about.

Then we built profiles for them.

That was V1: a comment section turned into a directory you can actually use.
Here's a look at what the site looked like back then! Look closely and you'll find a Q on the calculator.

This is Kimi writing by the way.
While we were building V1 of Sam's List, I still had my full time job, which was demanding travel + long nights.  So was Sam's List. Horrible timing, but I look back and laugh. Because of this, any chance where I could find a moment to work on SL, I had to seize it, which was often on public floors. Pictured here: Las Vegas Airport Floor. The good ol days :)

Who Sam’s List Is Best For:

Hiring a financial pro shouldn’t feel like a blind date.
You get the referral from a close friend or family member. You look at their website. "OooOo Pretty!" And you have a confident first call.

But you notice the problems later. Probably during tax season. Or when you need real help and aren't getting it.
Don't make this weird, but size matters.
Not in the way you're thinking.
In finance, it matters because tons of firms have minimums.

Revenue minimums. Income minimums. Portfolio minimums.

And most places don’t show the dealbreakers upfront because they want you to call and ask first.

So you end up booking calls that were never going to work.

We built Sam’s List so you can figure out if you're a qualified fit for someone in literally 10 SECONDS.

Seriously, go click on any persons page right now and if it takes you longer than 10 seconds to determine if you're a good fit for them, I'll venmo you $1.

In 10 seconds you can see:

  • Client reviews
  • Financial requirements
  • Industry preferences
  • Services offered
  • Specialties
Vet first, talk later. Your time is valuable.
We built this for people like us:
  • High-net-worth & Ultra-high-net-worth individuals
  • Business owners & entrepreneurs
  • VC backed startups
  • SMB owners
  • Anyone with “this is more complicated than TurboTax” energy
Please don't use Sam's List if:
  • You only want the cheapest option
  • You only want the cheapest option
  • You only want the cheapest option
  • You only want the cheapest option
  • You only want the cheapest option
Next Steps
If you’re stressed right now, do this:

Take the quiz (60 seconds).

or

Browse by your industry, specialty, or service needed and read the reviews.

Either way, you’ll stop guessing.

And that’s the whole point.

If you want to join as a firm, sign up here, and you'll hear from me again during onboarding.

For our fellow nerds our there, yes, we built the review system to be SEC-conscious and careful about what can and can’t be said.
We don’t give investment advice. We don’t tell you who to hire. We help you see your options and choose with more clarity. That's it.

Meet The Founders
This is us!
Sam is on the left, Kimi is in the middle, and Joe is on the right.

None of us are accountants or financial advisors. I (kimi) think that's a huge advantage. Someone's gotta interpret what these math machine robots do for a living!

Just kidding. Let's have fun.

I truly hope Sam's List helps you out whether you're searching for help or want to be listed on the site.
OH! Fun Fact: We've each used Sam's List to find new CPAs. That's pretty neat right?!
